Paper that printed at the wrong size

Most size problems come from the print dialog shrinking the page to fit, so first print again at 100% or Actual size, with Fit to page turned off, and measure the calibration ruler at the foot of the sheet. If it still isn't right, please include:

  • The share link (the Copy link button). It holds every setting, so we can make exactly the same sheet. Any header labels you typed are part of it.
  • What the ruler measured, for example "the 4 in bar measures 3 7/8 in", and how you checked it.
  • How you printed: the PDF or the Print button, which program opened the PDF (Adobe Acrobat Reader, a browser, Preview), the paper size loaded in the printer and the printer model.
  • Your device and browser, for example "Windows laptop, Chrome" or "iPad, Safari".

Bugs and suggestions

If the preview looks wrong, a setting is refused when it shouldn't be, or a paper type, ruling or page size you need is missing, tell us what you were trying to make and, for a standard ruling or size, where it is defined. Corrections to the page sizes and conventions on the methodology page are especially welcome with a link to the source; fixes are recorded in the changelog.

Before you write

The guide to printing at actual size has the scale settings for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Adobe Acrobat, and explains the small errors a printer can make even at 100%. The methodology page explains how each pattern is laid out and why a grid may be centred with slightly wider margins than you set.
